American Airlines to launch Boston-Heathrow service
  • American Airlines has announced to launch a new daily service between London Heathrow and Boston on March 29, 2020. The airline stated the route will be operated by B777-200 aircraft featuring 37 Flagship Business and 24 premium economy seats. This will give passengers the access to five daily flights including the four currently operated by British Airways on the route. The carrier said the new daily flight will depart from Boston Logan Airport at 7:15pm and arrive in London at 7:30am the following day. This new service will offer travellers a new convenient flight with direct access to key European destinations.

Aerotel opens in-terminal property at Heathrow Aerotel, the short-stay hotel brand by airport services provider Plaza Premium Group has opened a new property inside Heathrow Terminal 3 near the airline check-in desks. Plaza Premium stated the booking policy of the hotel will allow customers to check in at any time of the day for stays that start from six hours. The property has been designed with three room categories – Solo Plus, Double Plus and Family Room. All the rooms are equipped with power showers, mattresses, pillows as well as sleep-tea. The hotel has an on-site dining at the Library Lounge where guests are offered with a selection of hot and cold food and drinks. Besides, facilities like wireless free internet access and reading materials like newspapers and magazines are available.

British Airways codeshares with Malaysia Airlines
  • British Airways is set to launch a new codeshare agreement with its Oneworld partner Malaysia Airlines. It will cover Malaysia's 14 destinations including Langkawi, Penang and Kota Kinabalu, and nine cities across Australia, New Zealand, Cambodia, Indonesia and Vietnam. Booking these flights through British Airways will make passengers able to check through to their final destination and collect their boarding passes in advance. British Airways Executive Club members will also get frequent flyer benefits, and Avios can be used on reward flights, hotels, upgrades, experiences and part payments. The websites of both the airlines will start taking travel bookings on October 9.
Radisson to expand in Southern Europe
  • Radisson has announced to expand its presence in Southern Europe with new signings across Spain, Portugal and Italy. The group is planning to open three new properties in Madrid, Bilbao and Seville. Radisson RED Hotel in Madrid will feature around 200 rooms, the Bilbao one will feature around 137 rooms and the Seville one will have 89 rooms. The group will add two Radisson RED properties in the Portuguese cities of Lisbon and Porto. Both of these properties will open in 2021 and will comprise 290 rooms and 278 rooms respectively. The launch of these new properties to the Radisson Collection has increased the number of hotels in EMEA to 30 within the last 18 months.

British Airways launches new direct flights to Antalya in Turkey British Airways has launched new direct flights between London Gatwick and Antalya, Turkey. The new route will begin on April 30, 2020 and is currently on sale. It will operate six times a week and is available to book. The airline will use Airbus A320 to operate the service to the summer hotspot in Turkey. The launch of new flight to Antalya is part of British Airways adjustment to its London Gatwick schedule for the summer of 2020. The new flight will complement the summer service from Gatwick to Dalaman and round the year services of the airline between Heathrow and Istanbul.

Air Transat marks first transatlantic A321neoLR flight
  • Canadian carrier and the 2019 Skytrax World's Best Leisure Airline, Air Transat has welcomed its new A321neoLR aircraft to the UK for the first time. The airline has become the first to operate a transatlantic service to the UK and the first to bring the aircraft to Gatwick. The aircraft arrived at London Gatwick from Toronto Pearson Airport on October 8, and is due to make its debut at Glasgow Airport on October 31. It will enter Air Transat's daily service on a regular basis from November. As per the airline, the aircraft has been configured with a newly re-designed 12-seat Club Class premium economy cabin, and the seats feature natural leather construction, a leg rest and 13-inch touch-screen in-flight entertainment screens.
Virgin Atlantic Addition to enlarge Air France KLM and China Eastern JV
  • Plans have been announced to enlarge the Air France-KLM and China Eastern joint venture by adding Virgin Atlantic to it. China Eastern is currently in joint venture with Air France and KLM for a portfolio of flights between China, Paris and Amsterdam. The expansion of existing partnership between the three airlines by addition of Virgin Atlantic will develop cooperation to a higher level enabling delivery of more quality products and services for customers between China and Europe. Passengers can expect greater benefits apart from increased travel options for connectivity across Europe and China.

Flybe announces to rebrand as Virgin Connect in 2020 UK regional airline Flybe announced its rebranding as Virgin Connect with the airline joining the extended Virgin family. The overall re-branding of the airline is scheduled to be completed next year. The announcement made early this month was also accompanied by a new website that presented the airline's journey to become Virgin Connect. According to Flybe, it has been connecting passengers across the UK and Europe for 40 years, and this transformation will help in continuing its work as the largest regional airline of Europe.

Business Traveller Awards 2019
  • The 2019 Business Traveller awards were announced on October 7th at an event at London's Royal Garden hotel. Qatar Airways bagged 4 awards - Best Airline, Best Long-Haul Airline, Best Business Class and Best Middle Eastern Airline. British Airways won the awards for Best Frequent Flyer Programme, Best Short-Haul Carrier and Best Airport Lounge at London Heathrow T5. While Singapore Airlines was awarded Best Asian Airline, Best Economy Class and Best Cabin Staff, Singapore's Changi Airport retained the Best Airport in the World title. London Heathrow bagged the Best Airport for Tax-Free Shopping award. Dubai based Emirates won the award for Best First Class, and Virgin Atlantic was awarded the Best Premium Economy Class.

Heathrow Express has re-launched website and app Heathrow Express, owned by BAA, has launched new multi-lingual website and app with the aim to make travelling a bit easier. The airport train link operator announced the changes to their ticketing that will help in bringing it into line with the way other national rail services operate. This new dynamic pricing structure will help in increasing the availability of discounted tickets on all week days. Controlled by ground transportation platform Distribusion, the portal is likely to be released completely next year; and it has been stated that the third parties like TMCs, ground transfer operators and airlines will start integrating Heathrow Express tickets into their booking systems after its release.
