Gatwick gets more services to Shanghai
  • Air China has launched direct flights between Gatwick and Shanghai on 2 November. The new Air China flights will operate four times a week using two Airbus A350-900XWB aircraft. On Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, the flight will depart Shanghai Pu Dong airport at 0130, landing in Gatwick at 0620 local time. On Saturdays, it will take off at 0105 and arrive at 0555 local time. The return flight will take off from Gatwick at 1140 on Tuesdays and Thursdays and at 1130 on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and will land in Shanghai at 0650 the next day local time on all four days.

Air Transat to boost services to Toronto and Montreal for summer 2020 Air Transat has announced to introduce more choice for travellers from the UK and Ireland by increasing its services to Toronto and Montreal for the 2020 summer season. The airline will increase the frequency of flights between London Gatwick and Toronto from daily to twice daily, and between Gatwick and Montreal from three to five times weekly. The airline will also increase capacity on its routes from Glasgow and Dublin to Toronto where it is phasing out the Airbus A310s and replacing them with A330 and A321neo LRs. Both these routes will be increased to five times a week, along with its Manchester-Toronto route.

Virgin Atlantic continues to expand at Manchester Airport
  • Virgin Atlantic has announced to continue its expansion at Manchester Airport for summer 2020. The airline will offer more than 43,000 extra seats to Orlando, Barbados and Las Vegas increasing capacity by 11% versus summer 2019. The number of flights operating from Manchester to Barbados per week will move from two to three whereas the ones operating to Las Vegas will move to extra two per week during the peak season. Those who wish to fly down to Orlando from Manchester during the main summer peak can look forward to up to 14 flights a week.
Air New Zealand to abandon London – LA route
  • Air New Zealand has announced to stop its daily Los Angeles-London service from October 2020 after almost 40 years of service. The airline also unveiled its plan to launch a new service between Auckland and New York. Those who wish to travel with Air New Zealand after October 2020 can fly via other routes or via the new route that will launch as the London service ends. This will be the first ever direct flight from New York to Auckland with a flight time of 17 hours and 40 minutes southbound and 15 hours and 40 minutes northbound. It will be operated by the re-designed Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner of Air New Zealand.

Marriott launches Delta Hotels brand in the UK Delta Hotels by Marriott has announced to launch three properties, each in Milton Keynes, Brockworth and Nottingham this year. The one in Milton Keynes is opened near junctions 13 and 14 of the MI motorway and comprises 138 rooms, a gym, a restaurant, bar, a meeting space and external grounds for outdoor events. Delta Hotels by Marriott Cheltenham Chase in Brockworth is located on the edge of the Cotswolds hills, and has 122 rooms, a restaurant, bar, a spa with indoor pool, an outdoor terrace area and a conference and event venue. However, Delta Hotels by Marriott Nottingham Belfry is due to open by the end of 2019, and is located five miles from Nottingham city centre. It comprises 120 rooms, a space with indoor pool, a restaurant, bar, an outdoor terrace area and a conference venue.

Flybe announces to add new summer 2020 routes
  • Flybe has announced the first draft of its summer schedule for 2020 when it will be rebranded as Virgin Connect. The schedule will include seven new routes from Southend and Manchester; and most of them are effective March 29. The airline will restart Southend – Glasgow route, and will start new service to Belfast City, Edinburgh, Glasgow (all 18 per week), Newcastle (13 per week), Isle of Man (seven per week) and Jersey (up to two per week). Additionally, Flybe will launch daily flights between Manchester and Stuttgart with a morning departure. Manchester will also benefit from extra flights to Amsterdam, Luxembourg and Hannover.
Europcar announces to enhance features for corporates
  • Car hire brand Europcar has introduced delivery and collection services due to the strong demand from its corporate customers. According to Gary Smith, MD of Europcar Mobility Group UK, this new DeliverRight initiative has been designed to provide business drivers a high-quality and transparent customer service experience. Under this initiative, the brand has introduced a text-messaging service to notify drivers within a two-hour window of when their vehicle will be delivered or collected that will lead to reducing the chance of missed deliveries and collections having a knock-on impact on services provided to the customers.

Manchester gains new Shanghai air link Manchester airport is soon going to gain a new air link to China’s biggest city, Shanghai. This will be a boost for the 180,000 people and businesses within the catchment area of Manchester airport travelling to Shanghai each year. Chinese private carrier Juneyao Air is launching its first fifth-freedom route to Manchester from March next year. The airline will offer this service three times a week using a two-class Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. The flights will operate initially via Helsinki on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The route is designed with the aim to promote Greater Manchester’s tourism as well as to give Britain an opportunity to boost its trade and investment links to China.

British Airways announces first Boeing 787-10 route
  • British Airways has unveiled its first Boeing 787-10 route. The airline will operate the aircraft on the Atlanta route from Heathrow. The first new generation long-haul aircraft will be delivered in January with eight more expected during 2020. This four-class aircraft will have an eight seat first class cabin, 48 new Club Suite business class seats, 35 seats in World Traveller Plus and 165 in World Traveller economy. With its latest generation seats in all cabins, it will offer greater comfort for travellers. Furthermore, it has a carbon fibre fuselage that helps in keeping the pressure maintained at a lower level in the cabin.

Virgin Atlantic codeshares with Canada’s WestJet Virgin Atlantic has announced to expand its transatlantic reach from Gatwick via a new codeshare partnership with WestJet. It will see the codeshare number of Virgin Atlantic placed on WestJet flights to Canada’s 32 destinations including the four gateway cities of Calgary, Toronto, Halifax and Vancouver. The Canadian carrier flies year-round from Gatwick to Calgary and Toronto and from Gatwick to Halifax and Vancouver in the summer season. This agreement has come into effect on November 19th, 2019. Booking through a codeshare will provide customers the security and ease; and they will have a great flying experience with Westjet.
