British passport named the world's fourth most powerful
  • The British passport has been named the world's fourth most powerful in the latest 'Passport Index' which is based on the number of countries its citizens can visit without a visa. The report revealed that UK citizens can enter as many as 156 countries without a visa. According to the report, Singapore has the world’s most powerful passport with its citizens able to visit 159 countries either without a visa or with one issued on arrival. Germany is at the second place with 158 visa-free countries, while Sweden and South Korea tied for third place.

Emirates scraps first class on London-Dubai flights
Reports suggest that Dubai-based Emirates is scrapping First Class on several of its London flights this winter. The airline is doing away with the luxury seats to accommodate more economy seats. Two tiers of seating instead of three (first, business and economy) on the airline’s Airbus A380s between Gatwick and Dubai in November and December will allow Emirates to increase capacity from 489 passengers to 615. With six flights in a day, that's an additional 756 passengers daily for the airline.

Garuda Indonesia inaugurates Jakarta-London direct flight
  • Garuda Indonesia recently kicked off its direct route between Jakarta and London with one of its Boeing 777-300 ER jet. Garuda Indonesia President Director, Pahala Nugraha Mansury, who witnessed the inaugural flight said: "With this, Garuda Indonesia becomes the only airline that has nonstop, fast, convenient and efficient flights from Indonesia to the UK and Europe." The airline is operating Jakarta-London direct flights three times a week with flight duration of around 15 hours. Boeing 777-300 ER has a capacity of 314 seats, with eight for first class, 38 for business class and 268 for economy class.
British Airways to bring back second meal on long-haul flights
  • Alex Cruz, British Airways CEO, has unveiled a £4.5bn investment programme which includes boosting catering on long-haul flights. The airline stopped serving second meal on certain flights last year but British Airways will now make sure everyone has a full second meal, rather than just a snack. Mr Cruz made the announcement at the recently-concluded World Travel Market in London, saying: "We want to be the airline of choice for everyone. Every customer matters - short-haul or long-haul, economy or premium. So we must have an offer that is attractive to everyone."
Singapore Airlines unveils flights with double-bed suites
  • Singapore Airlines, the flag carrier of Singapore, has unveiled the all-new First Class Suites. The suites, which will be shortly available in the airline's A380 fleet is part of an upgrade that the airline is undertaking on its A380 fleet. Each A380 will come with six Suites. The Suites will feature sliding doors offering private space to the passengers. Within, a passenger is equipped with a 76-inch-long bed separate from the seat. Other features include a 32-inch touchscreen monitor and a bathroom consisting of vanity counter and branded amenities.
Qatar Airways buys stake in Cathay Pacific
  • Gulf carrier Qatar Airways has acquired a 9.6 per cent stake in Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong's flag carrier. The airline already owns a 20 per cent stake in IAG, 10 per cent in LATAM Airlines Group and 49 per cent in Meridiana. Qatar CEO Akbar Al Baker said: "Cathay Pacific is a fellow oneworld member and is one of the strongest airlines in the world, respected throughout the industry and with massive potential for the future."
Dalata brings Clayton brand to Scotland
  • Scotland will get its first Clayton Hotel as Irish hotel operator Dalata boosts its expansion plans for the UK by leasing a new hotel to be built in Glasgow. The new property is expected to come up by the end of 2020 and will be located in the centre of Glasgow on the river Clyde. It will have 300 bedrooms, bar, restaurant and conference facilities.
China Airlines returns to the UK
  • After a five-year absence, Taiwan's China Airlines will return to the UK with a new flight from London Gatwick. The new non-stop service to Taipei will run four times a week with the maiden flight taking off on December 1st. The airline will be using a brand-new Airbus A350-900. The aircraft has a capacity of 306 passengers and will have a three-class configuration - Premium Business, Premium Economy and Economy.
American Airlines launches a massive modernisation project
  • American Airlines has announced a massive overhaul of its fleet of aircraft, which will see passengers enjoy greater comfort, technology and space. The airline, which is the largest in the world in terms of fleet size, revenue and number of destinations served, has unveiled plans for an enormous upgrade, which has been branded by many as the 'largest modernisation project in aviation history'. According to airline officials, 550 of its narrow-body fleet will be reconfigured to include new seats, new interiors, satellite Wi-Fi, new in-seat power etc.
Qantas takes Dreamliner delivery
  • Qantas, the flag carrier of Australia has taken delivery of the first aircraft it will use to operate non-stop flights from the UK to Australia. The brand-new Boeing 787 Dreamliner will fly non-stop from London Heathrow to Perth from 25 March, 2018. Following the 18-hour trip to Perth, the jet will then continue its flight to Melbourne.
