Emirates named BEST First Class service in the sky
  • Emirates, the largest airline in the Middle East, have been named the best First Class service at the inaugural TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice© Awards for Airlines. The multi-award winning airline also won the award for best Economy service. Aeroflot, the national airline of Russia won the Best Business Class category whilst Air New Zealand won in the best Premium Economy category.

Edinburgh Airport records its busiest ever month
Edinburgh Airport, which carried more than 12 million passengers last year, reported another milestone with its busiest ever March in 2017. The busiest airport in Scotland saw passenger numbers rise by more than 4% on the same month last year, welcoming almost a million passengers.

Qatar Airways to launch high-speed internet on flights
  • Qatar Airways will be the first airline in the Middle East to launch high-speed broadband on flights starting this summer. It is being launched in partnership with Inmarsat and will initially be available on the Boeing 777 and Airbus 350. "Seamless connectivity is part of our passengers’ lifestyle requirements on the ground and is fast becoming a minimum expectation for travel in the air," said Mr Al Baker, CEO of Qatar Airways.
Flight prices down by 10% on last year says report
  • A recent report has revealed overall flight prices have dropped by at least 10% in the past year with long-haul fares leading the way. According to the report, Vancouver has seen the greatest drop with an 18% year on year drop in price. Other flights cheaper this year compared to last include Boston (down 13%) and Hong Kong (down 14%).
Atlanta-Hartsfield-Jackson named world's busiest airport
  • The Airports Council International has announced its statistics for 2016, revealing traffic at the world's 20 busiest airports grew by 4.6% last year with Atlanta-Hartsfield-Jackson named the world's busiest airport with more than 104 million passengers. Beijing was named the second busiest airport in the world followed by Dubai.
Qatar Airways set to launch flights from Cardiff to Doha
  • Qatar Airways is set to launch flights from Cardiff to Doha next year. It will be the very first daily from Cardiff Airport to the airline's hub in Doha. The new service will allow travellers to fly direct from their local airport via Doha to a selection of over 150 destinations around the world including Asia, Australasia, Africa and the Middle East.
Premier Inn to open a new property at London Heathrow terminal 4
  • Scheduled to open in May, the 613-room hotel will have an indoor walkway connecting it directly to the airport. The hotel will have an all day dining restaurant, a coffee shop, a bar and a gym. The rooms will have a king size bed, tea and coffee making facilities, and free Wi-Fi access.
Emirates opens new lounge at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport
  • Emirates has opened a new lounge at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport. Emirates' First Class and Business Class passengers, as well as Platinum and Gold Skywards members, will enjoy complimentary access to the new lounge. It has a seating capacity of 202 and has shower facilities, a prayer room, a fully equipped business centre and complimentary Wi-Fi. The lounge features LED TVs, leather armchairs, and a wide-ranging menu of complimentary hot and cold gourmet buffet.
Business travel growing rapidly
  • A report released at the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) Global Summit in Bangkok, shows that the fastest growth for the business travel is expected in the emerging markets, with Asia-Pacific leading the way at a forecasted rate of 6.2% each year to 2027. In Asia, China is expected to lead the way with 9.5% annual growth to 2027, followed by Myanmar (8.7%), Hong Kong (8%), Cambodia (7.4%) and India (7.2%).
Oman Air begins Manchester-Muscat flights
  • Oman Air started its daily Manchester-Muscat service from May 1. The new service leaves Manchester at 20:45 and arrives in Muscat at 07:20 the next day. The return flight takes off from Muscat International airport at 14:00 and arrives in Manchester at 19:05. The flight is operated by A330-200 and is in addition to the double daily flight from London Heathrow. Oman has seen considerable investment in the MICE market from the UK.
Heathrow-Qingdao route to be launched by Beijing Capital Airlines
  • Heathrow has a new route to China with Beijing Capital Airlines starting the first direct flights to Qingdao, one of the fastest growing cities in China, soon. It will be a three-flights-a-week service and will start from summer. This new route to Qingdao will result in nearly 70,000 extra seats a year for passengers travelling to and from China.
