Business Travel Show 2017 attracts a large audience
  • As per early reports, the visitor numbers have seen a sharp rise for the Business Travel Show, which took place at Olympia London last month. 260 companies, including Applehouse Travel, exhibited in 2017. Other than Applehouse Travel, some of the major exhibitors at this year's event included American Airlines, Uber, Airbnb, Amadeus, easyJet, Etihad, Premier Inn, Flybe, Mastercard, Star Alliance, United Airlines, Avis, and Eurostar.

Geneva is the most expensive business travel destination in Europe
According to findings of the latest Daily Rates research published by ECA International, Geneva is the most expensive location in Europe for business travel. "Swiss cities dominate the top ten most expensive destinations due to the relative strength of the Swiss franc against the US dollar when compared with other European currencies," said Simon Franklin, Daily Rates Manager for ECA International. "Geneva tops the European rankings this year due to its high hotel costs, which are partly due to high levels of tourism driving up prices. Four-star hotel accommodation in Geneva averages USD 373 per night, beating the second highest in the region, Zurich, by 10 percent."

Sofitel rated best hotel at Heathrow Airport by TripAdvisor
  • Sofitel London Heathrow has been rated the number one TripAdvisor hotel at the airport for the year 2016. The luxury property was against 23 other premium and budget hotels located at Heathrow and the surrounding Hounslow area during each month of 2016. Sofitel London Heathrow is directly connected to Terminal 5 by a covered walkway and features 605 spacious guest rooms including 27 suites and extensive conference and events space.
JAL reopens upgraded lounge at Bangkok airport
  • Japan Airlines (JAL) has reopened its lounge at the Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi International Airport after it underwent a major, five-month renovation. The lounge now has 169 seats, including eight seats in a private room; a built-in smoking room; 12-unit digital numeric lockers for carry-on baggage; and three shower rooms.
Emirates to unveil revamped A380 onboard lounge at ITB Berlin
  • Emirates have revamped its Business and First Class lounge on board its A380 aircraft. The new design will be unveiled at ITB Berlin 2017, the world's largest tourism trade fair. Emirates' President Sir Tim Clark said: "In our latest revamp, we have taken inspiration from private yacht cabins, and amongst other thoughtful touches, we have increased the seating space, and also made it more intimate and conducive for our passengers to socialise or enjoy our lounge service".
British Airways to launch new summer routes from Dublin and Edinburgh
  • From May, 2017, British Airways will start summer-only direct flights from Dublin to Ibiza. The British carrier will also begin flights to Palma, Majorca from Edinburgh in June. Flights will depart Dublin on Fridays at 2225, arriving at Ibiza at 0220 the following day. For the return journey, the flight will leave on Sundays at 0900 and arrive back at the Irish capital at 1055. Flights from Edinburgh will depart on Fridays at 0615, landing at Palma at 1015. The return flight will leave on Fridays as well at 1110, arriving at the Scottish capital at 1315.
Ryanair launches 13 new air routes to Morocco
  • Ryanair, the Irish low-cost carrier, will expand its operations in Morocco with the launch of 13 new air routes. The airline's winter programme for Morocco includes the launch of seven flights to connect Marrakech airport to the European cities of Budapest (Hungary), Cologne (Germany), Nîmes (France), Krakow (Poland), Santander (Spain), Perpignan (France) and Venice (Italy). Also, it will add three routes to the Fez airport by starting two flights a week from Bremen (Germany), Munich (Germany) and Seville (Spain). Two new flights will be launched from Nador to DÜsseldorf in Germany and two other weekly flights will be available from Rabat and Tangier airports to Eindhoven in the Netherlands.
British Airways introduces English sparkling wine to its first class menu
  • The airline will serve Bolney Wine Estate's Vintage Blanc de Blancs from the West Sussex-based winery to its First Class passengers. BA's head of catering, Colin Talbot said: "We are delighted to be adding Bolney Wine Estate's Vintage Blanc de Blancs as our guest sparkling wine. This is the first time we have offered an English sparkling white wine on board and we think our customers are going to love it. All of our wines are blind tasted by experts to ensure we serve the very best and this English sparkling wine came out on top."
Qatar Airways to unveil its new business-class seat
  • The Doha-based airline will reveal the new Business Class seat during a press conference on the opening day of ITB Berlin. Qatar Airways Group CEO Akbar Al Baker said: "This year's ITB exhibition will be the location at which we will premier our much-anticipated new business-class product."
Emirates launches new Cambodia service
  • From July 1 2017, Emirates will start flying to Cambodia's most populated city, Phnom Penh. Emirates, which will time the departure of the Phnom Penh service to allow connections arriving from London, Paris and Frankfurt, hopes the route will capitalise on growing interest in Cambodia among UK holidaymakers and corporate travellers.
Virgin Atlantic launches 'Oscars Season'
  • Virgin Atlantic is hosting a special 'Oscars Season' of movies on board. Until May, the airline will screen every single nominated film in all the major Academy Award.  Major hits on board will include La La Land, Manchester by the Sea, and Best Picture winner, Moonlight. So, on a flight from Los Angeles to London Heathrow (11 hours 10 minutes), you could watch Hacksaw Ridge, La La Land, and Manchester by the Sea, Fences, and Lion from the Best Picture category.
Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts marks its Sri Lanka debut
  • The 24-floor Mövenpick Hotel Colombo is the first international five-star property to open in the city in 25 years. The property is characterized by its modern architecture, with a diamond-shaped exterior blending with organic hanging gardens, boasting some 14,310 plants. It has 219 rooms and suites, each featuring floor-to-ceiling windows.
