Air China launches first direct flight to Chengdu
  • Air China recently launched the UK's first direct service to Chengdu, China's fourth biggest city, departing London Gatwick three times a week. The airline will be operating the route using its Airbus A330 and is offering three cabins - Economy, Premium Economy and Business. Chengdu is one of China's largest business hubs and the region is home to 80% of China's wild pandas.

UK Government gives green-light to Heathrow expansion
London Heathrow has been given the green-light to construct its third runway following the approval of the project by the UK government. However, officials made a number of pledges to ensure the bill was passed including there would be no cost to UK taxpayers. Bosses also promised an economic boost, promising 100,000 jobs and environmental protections.

UAE has announced free 48-hour transit visa for Dubai and Abu Dhabi
  • The United Arab Emirates (UAE) recently approved to exempt transit passengers from all entry fees for the first 48 hours. The transit visa to the country can also be extended for a period of up to 96 hours for a fee of AED 50 or approximately £ 10. However, the date from which this will be allowed is yet to be announced.
Virgin Atlantic invests £10m on new cabins
  • Virgin Atlantic is investing a whopping £10m to upgrade Upper Class seats and launch an all new Premium Economy cabin on its fleet of A330 aircraft. According to media reports, Upper Class seats will offer direct aisle access, more room and new leather upholstery with three styles of seating - Love Suites (side by side), Corner Suites and Freedom Suites. Daniel Kerzner, Virgin Atlantic, Vice-President Customer Experience, said: "It's a new Upper Class product. The seats will be physically different to the rest of the fleet, but the attributes will be the same."
Emirates plans windowless planes
  • Emirates has become the first ever airline to test what it calls "virtual windows" with a view to removing all windows from its aircraft. According to airline bosses, removing windows would make the aircraft faster, more fuel-efficient and cheaper to operate. The new "virtual windows" will work by real-time images being projected onto the inside of the aircraft using cameras.
Qatar Airways brings Airbus A350 to Edinburgh
  • Qatar Airways has increased number of seats on its Edinburgh-Doha route by replacing the B787 Dreamliner with an A350-900. It will add 406 seats to the route per week, with the A350-900 offering a total of 283 seats - 36 in Business class and 247 in Economy - on each daily flight. The increased capacity is announced to cater to the demand for more seats on the popular route that was launched in 2014. The aircraft's Business Class seats offer passengers lie-flat beds, HD touch screens and dual-screen functionality as well as Onair Wi-Fi service.
Lufthansa Group airlines receive multiple business travel awards
  • The network airlines of the Lufthansa Group took the first three spots in the category of 'Best airline for business travellers on German and European routes' at Business Traveller Awards 2018, held recently in Frankfurt. SWISS took the first place in the category for fifth consecutive time, followed by Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines in second and third place respectively. Lufthansa.com won the "Best Internet service for business travellers" award.
Emirates launches daily Stansted-Dubai service
  • Dubai-based Emirates has expanded its UK network with the start of daily flights from Stansted to Dubai. Stansted is now the seventh airport in the UK being served by the airline. Emirates is deploying a three-class Boeing 777-300ER on the route. The aircraft will feature first class suites and business and economy cabins. The flight from Stansted departs at 9.10 pm and arrives in Dubai at 7.05 am local time. The return flight takes off from Dubai at 9.30 am and arrives at Stansted at 2.10 pm local time.
Singapore Airlines offers new Chinese dining experience to business class flyers
  • If you are a fan of the Chinese food and are flying with Singapore Airlines between Singapore and Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai and Hong Kong, there is good news for you. From 1 July 2018, the airline is offering new in-flight Chinese dining concept for Business Class flyers on select Singapore Airlines flights. Shi Quan Wei Mei, the in-flight Chinese dining concept, makes use of traditional cooking techniques and fresh seasonal produce, promising an authentic in-flight Chinese meal experience for Business Class travellers.
Norwegian to commence daily Dublin-Toronto flights
Norwegian, one of the largest low-cost carriers in the UK, will start daily non-stop flights between Dublin and Hamilton airport in Toronto from 31 March, 2019. The airline will be using the new B737 MAX aircraft on the route, offering 189 seats in a single economy cabin. This is Norwegian's first route to Canada.
