Lufthansa announces its first service from Munich to Paris-Orly
  • Lufthansa has announced to launch its first service from Munich to Paris-Orly on 16 March 2020. As per the 2019/20 winter timetable, the new service will be operated by a Bombardier CRJ900 aircraft and will take off twice daily from Munich to the French capital. The morning flight, LH2244 will depart Munich at 06:50 and will land at 08:20 whereas the evening flight, LH2214 will depart at 17:35 and will land at 19:05 local time. The new flights to Orly complement the airline’s 40 weekly flights between Munich and Paris Charles de Gaulle airport, providing excellent connections to North America, Japan, India, Asia and Mexico.

British Airways launches flights to Portland British Airways has announced to become the first airline offering a year-round direct flight from the UK to Portland, Oregon. The airline will start a five-per-week service to the city from June 1, 2020. The new service will depart from Heathrow Terminal 5 on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and will be operated by the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The flights will depart from the UK at 15:05 and will land in Portland at 16:55 local time. The return flights will leave Portland at 18:45 arriving at 12:10 local time. This new service will take the number of US destinations British Airways flies to from London up to 27.

United Airlines to increase London-New York frequency
  • United Airlines will increase the frequency of its flights from London to New York to six times daily from 29 March 2020. The airline’s reconfigured Boeing 777-300 ER aircraft will operate the new flights and will feature premium seats comprising 46 Polaris business class seats and 22 in the Premium Plus cabin. The new flights will depart from Heathrow at 09:30 on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, at 09:15 on Tuesday, at 08:00 and 09:00 on Thursday, Friday and Sunday, and at 10:00, 12:00, 16:00 and 18:00 on all days. The flights will depart from Newark at 20:10 on Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Sunday, at 08:30, 18:00, 19:00, 20:00 on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, and at 21:00 and 22:00 on all days.

Flybe confirms to change Newquay-Heathrow flights to Gatwick Exeter-based airline has confirmed to switch its Newquay-Heathrow flights back to Gatwick from March 29. The airline stated the replacement of flights along with new routes to Amsterdam and Manchester will prove a positive change for Newquay. As per a report in the UK newspaper The Telegraph, Flybe has also announced to start its new service from Heathrow to Düsseldorf Int'l, most likely using some of slots left by the 4x daily flight to Newquay. The services are being started due to the airline’s liberty to use the slots on services to short-haul international destinations rather than domestic ones from the end of March. The current Newquay service to Heathrow was only replaced by the UK regional airline from London Gatwick on March 31, 2019.

Qatar Airways announces a codeshare partnership with Deutsche Bahn
  • Qatar Airways has signed codeshare agreement with Deutsche Bahn, a German railway firm offering passengers connection to and from eight key destinations in Germany. The partnership will make Qatar Airways travellers able to book rail connections to Stuttgart, Nuremburg, Hannover, Leipzig, Cologne, Dusseldorf, Munich and Hamburg via the airline's Frankfurt gateway. The airline is currently operating 35 weekly flights between Doha and Frankfurt, Munich and Berlin - one daily flight from Berlin and two daily flights from Frankfurt and Munich.
Plaza Premium opens its first lounge at Dubai International Airport
  • Plaza Premium has opened its first lounge at Dubai International Airport in Terminal 3, Concourse A. It is the largest independent pay-per-use lounge in T3 spread across 1,260 square metre and holding capacity for 300 guests. The lounge comprises four family suites, a cigar lounge, a dedicated children's playroom, a private napping space, male and female prayer rooms, and five showers. The food offered here includes Arabic, Asian and other international dishes prepared at live kitchen stations. It has been designed with the aim to attract business travellers as well as families.

Qatar Airways and Malaysia Airlines announce significant codeshare expansion Qatar Airways and Malaysia Airlines will expand codeshare cooperation starting from 27 January 2020. While the airline's current codeshare cooperation covers 10 Qatar Airways destinations, the expanded agreement will allow Malaysia Airlines travellers to book travel to 20 more Qatar Airways gateways in Europe, America, and Africa. This, in turn, will make Qatar Airways travellers benefit from access to four South East Asian destinations including Sibu and Alor Setar in Malaysia, and Medan and Surabaya in Indonesia. This will take the number of codeshare routes in the network of Malaysia Airlines to 24.

British Airways to refresh lounges in Chicago, Edinburgh and Berlin
  • British Airways has announced to refresh its lounges in Chicago, Edinburgh and Berlin as part of its £6.5bn investment plan for travellers. The airline will also make improvements in its several lounges at Heathrow Terminal 5 hub and will re-launch the Elemis Spa at New York JFK. Planned to be completed in Spring 2020, the lounges of Chicago will have a more relaxing atmosphere for customers with new marble tables, more charging ports, specially crafted chairs and redesigned dining, Edinburgh lounges will have bespoke armchairs and reconfigured working and dining areas, and the lounge in Berlin will have entirely new decor with up to 10 daily flights between the two capital cities.

Air India adds more seats on London route, to start new flights to other places Air India has announced to add a greater number of high-end seats on London route with repaired grounded aircraft to make itself more appealing to potential bidders. The airline has replaced the smaller 787 Dreamliner and has started using Boeing Co. 777 jets for its service to London from New Delhi. The 787 Dreamliner is now flying thrice a week to Washington. Despite being a 10-hour flight, the Boeing 777 can return from London the same day; and it comprises four first-class and 35 business-class seats. There is no first class in the business section and the seats are also limited. The airline already operates a 777 Dreamliner for the Mumbai-London route.
