Our first newsletter of 2017 is here. We hope you find our monthly newsletters, which cover a review of what's happened as well as what's coming up across the travel industry, useful and interesting. Our newsletters are aimed at keeping you updated with the latest travel news from the UK and other parts of the world, as well as developments in the corporate travel domain and how these benefit travel management and decisions related to business travel. Emirates adds new comforts to its First and Business Class cabins
  • Dubai-based Emirates has introduced a host of exclusive, new products to its First and Business Class cabins. Upper class travellers will be offered First Class lounge wear, luxury blankets, skincare from VOYA and a new range of amenity kits from Bulgari.
    For added comfort, Emirates offers a plush, faux sheep-skin blanket in First Class. Business Class customers are provided with soft duvets in charcoal grey.

Singapore Airlines to offer flights to Stockholm
Singapore Airlines will add Stockholm to its global network in May when the airline starts flights to Sweden's capital via Moscow. Flights to Stockholm will be launched on 30 May 2017 and will be operated with Airbus A350-900 aircraft, subject to regulatory approvals.
The airline currently operates four weekly flights to the Russian capital from Singapore. From 30 May, the frequency will increase to five per week, with the flights continuing on to Stockholm's Arlanda Airport.

Melbourne-Los Angeles route to be Qantas' First Dreamliner service
  • Passengers flying to Los Angeles from Melbourne will be able to enjoy the Qantas 787-9 Dreamliner experience when the inaugural international service takes off on 15 December 2017. The aircraft will have a capacity of 236 passengers in a three-class configuration.
    Complementing the daily Airbus A380 service between Melbourne and Los Angeles, the Dreamliner will operate six times per week.
British Airways to introduce seven new short-haul routes from Heathrow
  • British Airways will be launching seven new short-haul routes from London Heathrow this summer. The airline will fly to Brindisi (Italy), Montpelier (France), Murcia (Spain), Nantes (France),Tallinn (Estonia), Zakynthos (Greece) from Terminal 5 and Pula (Croatia) from Terminal 3 from March 2017 each operating at a frequency of two times per week.
Qatar Airways to offer designer Nappa Dori amenity kits to Premium travellers
  • Qatar Airways has introduced signature Nappa Dori amenity kits on board for all of its premium passengers on short and medium haul flights. Nappa Dori, renowned globally for its luxury handcrafted travel and fashion accessories, has created bespoke amenity kits featuring images from more than 150 destinations served by Qatar Airways.
Hong Kong Airlines to launch daily direct flight To Vancouver
  • Hong Kong Airlines will launch a daily direct flight between Hong Kong and Vancouver from 30 June this year. The route will be operated by Airbus A330 aircraft. Li Dianchun, Chief Commercial Officer of Hong Kong Airlines, said: "This new route service is Hong Kong Airlines' debut in North America, we wish to attract as many visitors as possible to see the beautiful city of Vancouver, as well as encourage family reunions or business co-operation.
Singapore Airlines to deploy new generation Airbus A350-900 aircraft from Manchester
  • Passengers flying from Manchester to Houston or Singapore with Singapore Airlines from January 17th will be getting on board the airlines' brand new A350-900 aircraft. Those lucky enough to be travelling the route in either Premium Economy or Butsiness Class with Singapore Airlines will get the chance to experience the all new cabins with Premium Economy passengers offered priority check-in, a wider seat and a 13-inch touch screen monitor.
IRotana voted the world's leading business hotel brand
  • Rotana has been voted the World's Leading Business Hotel Brand for the fifth time at the World Travel Awards 2016. The event, which was held in the Maldives, also recognised Rotana's flagship property, Beach Rotana Abu Dhabi, as the World's Leading Corporate Resort 2016. Omer Kaddouri, President and CEO, said: "There is no industry recognition bigger and more prestigious than the World Travel Awards, and we are very proud to have won two awards at this year's Grand Final. That we secured these coveted accolades by beating off stiff competition from the best international brands is a clear indication of Rotana's rising global profile and reputation."
Qantas Plans to launch non-stop flights to Australia
  • Australian flag carrier Qantas has announced ambitious plans to operate non-stop flights between London and Perth, Western Australia using the new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. The journey, which is expected to take 17 hours, travelling a distance of 14,498 kilometres, will be the first direct passenger flight between the two countries, directly linking Europe and Australia when it launches in March 2018.
British Airways will soon offer access to 'First Wing'
  • British Airways' travellers flying from London Heathrow will soon have access to a new 'First Wing', creating a dedicated walkway from check-in, through the Fast Track Security area to the Terminal 5 lounges. It will be assessable from April 2017 for the airline's First customers, eligible Gold Executive Club customers and oneworld Emerald members. First Wing will be located next to the airline’s First check-in area.

Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park to undergo restorationt
Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has opted for a comprehensive multimillion-pound restoration of its European flagship, the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London. All 181 rooms and suites will flaunt a stylish decor, inspired by the building's Edwardian heritage and the natural beauty of Hyde Park. Also, two new luxurious penthouse suites will be created, with private terraces and extensive park views. The hotel's entrance, main lobby and reception areas will be reconfigured and redesigned.
R Hotels and Wyndham Hotel Group
  • R Hotels and Wyndham Hotel Group will open the first Wyndham Garden in the United Arab Emirates. Wyndham Garden Ajman Corniche is expected to open to the general public by the end of 2017. It will be a 4-star property with 179 guest rooms, including 138 standard rooms and 41 suites, as well as an executive lounge on the top floor with terrific views of the Arabian Gulf. The hotel will include two restaurants, an outdoor swimming pool, gym and spa, and separate health clubs for men and women.

Star Alliance opens new lounge at Rio de Janeiro airport
Star Alliance recently opened its new lounge at Rio de Janeiro's Galeão - Tom Jobim International Airport. The exclusive Alliance Lounge is located on level 3 of the new international departures pier in terminal 2 and is accessible by eligible Star Alliance customers. It has a seating capacity of more than 150 guests and provides beautiful views across the airport and beyond. Rio de Janeiro's Galeão - Tom Jobim International Airport serves six Star Alliance carriers, including Avianca, Avianca Brazil, COPA, Lufthansa, TAP and United.
United Airlines unveils First Polaris Business-Class Lounge in Chicagoyt

United Airlines recently inaugurated the United Polaris Lounge at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport. It is one of nine that United plans to open by early 2018. The 15,000-square-foot facility, in Terminal 1's Concourse B, will open to long-haul business class customers of United and other Star Alliance carriers. The lounge features seating pods, configured to resemble the pods in a business-class cabin. There are four private relaxation suites with day beds and adjustable lighting and temperatures.
