Iberia upgrades its business class seat on new Airbus A350
  • Iberia's new Airbus A350 jets will upgrade its international business class. Expected to be similar to those of the Spanish flag-carrier's Airbus A330 and A340 fleet, the new design seats will, however, be slightly wider, at 58cm across compared to 52.5cm on the A330, along with wider footrests and a larger drop-down aisle panel in the seat's shell. The seat will also have a larger HD video screen. Iberia's Airbus A350s will have 31 business class seats in 1-2-1 layout.

TAG Farnborough reports record jump in traffic growth
TAG Farnborough Airport, the business aviation gateway to London, has announced a record increase in air traffic movements (ATM). The airport has reported an increase of 17.9 per cent in January 2018, which is the highest ever growth in the history of TAG Farnborough Airport. As per the airport, the year 2017 as a whole saw year-on-year growth in air traffic movements of 7.4 per cent, and was its busiest year since 2007. Tag Farnborough also noted for 2017 a substantial growth in air traffic movements from Asia with an increase of 13 per cent year-on-year, as well as Africa and Europe, both up by 10 per cent year-on-year.

Four in five travel managers look for ABTA membership in TMCs
  • Corporate travel managers take ABTA membership into consideration when selecting a new TMC, a new research released ahead of the Business Travel Show (21-22 February) revealed. More than 500 travel managers took part in the survey that found that four in five (84%) travel managers say membership of ABTA is important or very important when they are looking for a TMC. This is up from 82% in 2017.
Cobalt Air launches new business class
  • Cobalt Air, Cyprus's largest airline, will soon introduce a new business class product on its London Gatwick-Larnaca and Paphos-Moscow services. Cobalt Air CEO Andrew Madar said: "Business class will offer priority boarding, a dedicated check in desk, spacious seating, extensive dining menu that can be ordered at a time of customer's choice. In addition, business class will offer access to a business class lounge, priority check-in and two 20kg bags".
Busiest year EVER for Gatwick Airport
  • London Gatwick, the UK's second busiest airport ended 2017 with its busiest December on record with a whopping 3.2 million passengers travelling though the airport during the month. According to latest figures, a total of 45.6 million passengers used Gatwick last year, up 5.2% on the previous year. The report says that flights to long-haul destinations such as Singapore, Rwanda, Seattle and Denver were up by 16% on the previous year.
A refurbished Plaza Premium Lounge opens at Abu Dhabi airport
  • A newly refurbished Plaza Premium Lounge has been unveiled at the Abu Dhabi International Airport. Located within Terminal 1, the lounge features 47 per cent more seating and can accommodate around 300 people. Located adjacent to Aerotel Abu Dhabi, it offers seating areas, an all-day dining room, a prayer room, a workstation area and massage rooms. Moreover, there’s a library of films, TV shows, magazines and newspapers. The lounge is open to travellers in first or business class with any airline.
South African Airways to introduce A330 on London route
  • South African Airways (SAA) will introduce the new A330-300 on the London to Johannesburg route from March 2018. The airline will also reduce the frequency on the London route from a double daily service to a single flight per day from 20 April.

    Vuyani Jarana, CEO of SAA, said: "We have decided to focus on those areas of our business that will enhance our efficiencies, bring more value to our customers and produce improved overall performance of the airline. Network optimisation is one such are that can contribute towards containing our costs and we introduced some initiatives that must yield dividends to return the business to commercial sustainability in the shortest time possible."
Now track your bags with Delta Airlines' new luggage labels
  • Delta Airlines is rolling out a new piece of tech for its customers, following a £35m project that will allow fliers to track their luggage during their trip from their mobile phone. As the bags travel from the aircraft and into the airport, fliers will be able see the exact location of their bags and are also able to set notifications which will tell them which carousel to go to and how long it will be before the bags appear.
Virgin Hotels to establish a property in Edinburgh
  • Virgin Hotels plans to open its first European property in Edinburgh in 2020. To be located within the India Buildings on Victoria Street in the city's Old Town, the property will feature 225 rooms and suites, multiple food and drink outlets, including the brand's flagship Commons Club, and several meeting spaces. Sir Richard Branson, Founder of the Virgin Group, said: "Edinburgh is such an iconic city and we're thrilled to be able to say it will be the home of the first Virgin Hotel in the UK and across Europe."
Qantas to open a new international business class lounge in Perth
The flag carrier of Australia, Qantas will have a new international business class lounge at Perth Airport on March 24. Located in a new 'international wing' of Terminal 3, the lounge, named the Qantas Perth International Transit Lounge, will have a dozen shower suites with optional blue LED lighting. The new lounge will be accessible to business class travellers and eligible frequent flyers – including Qantas Platinum One, Platinum and Gold card-holders (and their Oneworld Emerald and Sapphire equivalents) along with Qantas Club members.
Malaysia Airlines launches Airbus A350 from London Heathrow
Malaysia Airlines launched its inaugural Airbus A350 from London Heathrow recently. Competing against both the Boeing 787 and 777, the A350 is a long-range, twin-engine jet liner which is the first aircraft from Airbus with both the fuselage and wing structure made primarily of carbon-fibre-reinforced polymer. The latest to its fleet, the A350 has a total capacity of 286 seats-four in First Class, 35 in Business Class and 247 in Economy Class.
