Emirates to launch daily service to Newark via Athens
  • Emirates recently announced its plans to launch a new daily service from Dubai to Newark Liberty International Airport, via Athens, the Greek capital. Beginning on 12th March 2017, the new route will also provide a year-round non-stop daily service between the United States and Greece. Boeing 777-300ER, with 8 seats in First, 42 seats in Business and 304 in Economy, will be used for the new route.

London Heathrow celebrates another record year
London Heathrow, the UK's busiest airport, celebrated its 70th birthday last year, welcoming a record breaking 70 million passengers through its doors. Not only did the airport reach record passenger numbers, for the second year running, Heathrow was also named the ‘Best Airport in Western Europe' for the second year running in the annual Skytrax Global Airport Awards.

Etihad Airways expands Boeing 787 network
  • This year, Etihad Airways will gradually be introducing Boeing 787-9s on several routes. Dreamliners will be deployed on daily year-round scheduled services to Amman and Beirut, as well as to Beijing, Shanghai and Seoul. Moreover, the 787-9 will be operated seasonally to Athens during the summer months. Peter Baumgartner, Etihad Airways chief executive officer, said: "With the additional cities joining our 787 network during 2017, we are giving more guests the opportunity to fly on our next generation aircraft."
Business travel in India likely to triple to $93 billion by 2030
  • While business travel is growing worldwide, India is expected to lead this growth. As per a report, spending in this category is expected to grow three times to $93 billion by 2030 from the current levels. Along with India, business travel is expected to grow at a remarkable rate in countries like China, Germany and Canada.
World's safest airlines named in annual airline safety rankings
  • AirlineRatings.com has come with its annual safety rankings. Qantas has been placed at the number one position for the fourth year in a row. Meanwhile, Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific carrier was named the world's safest airline for the third year in a row by Germany's Jet Airliner Crash Data Evaluation Centre (JACDEC).
Emirates introduces moisturising pyjamas for first class passengers
  • Emirates have recently launched "the world's first moisturising sleepwear for the skies"! Offered to passengers flying overnight, the pyjamas are made from Hydra Active Microcapsule Technology and promise to keep passenger's skin soft and hydrated!
London Heathrow is the world's best airport lounge
  • The Plaza Premium Lounge at London Heathrow's Terminal 2 has been named the world's best airport lounge. Winning in the Europe and Global category, the Plaza Premium Lounge features private bathrooms, a wellness spa and a Champagne and tapas bar. The Asiana Lounge at Seoul Incheon International was named the Asia Pacific winner.
Birmingham airport is the world's most punctual
  • Birmingham Airport has been named the most punctual in the world in 2016 by aviation analysts, OAG. The Punctuality League shows Birmingham's on-time performance is unbeaten by the rest of the world. Newcastle was the most punctual airport in the small airports category of 2.5 to 5 million seats.
Airport Lounge Openings
Emirates opens its business and first class lounges to all passengers
Emirates have opened its business class lounges at Dubai International Airport to guests who are willing to pay, allowing lower-tier passengers to access the lounge services and amenities. However, passengers must be members of the Emirates Skywards rewards scheme to enjoy the facilities, but they do not need to have accrued any loyalty 'miles' with the airline.
New VIP services lounge opened at Frankfurt Airport
  • Frankfurt Airport inaugurated a second VIP Lounge recently. Located at the B Transit zone, the spacious new lounge is expected to treat the guests to an unmatched level of comfort and opulence. It will have various luxury suites with marble bathrooms and a well-stocked bar and smoking lounge.

Air New Zealand to open Star Alliance lounge at Perth Airport
Air New Zealand will open its first airport lounge in Perth as part of its $100 million lounge development programme. The lounge will have the similar design as that of its other new lounges in Sydney, Brisbane and Auckland. This new lounge in Perth is expected to have self-serve drinks and buffet dining.
Manchester Airport to open new lounge brand

Manchester Airport will soon open a new luxury lounge that that will be located in the Terminal 3. Interestingly named 1903, after the year of the Wright Brothers first flight, the lounge will have a capacity for up to 71 people and will provide all-inclusive luxury in an adult-only environment. The lounge will have its own chef and passengers using the lounge will be able to use the Fast Track security and enjoy unlimited free Wi-Fi access.
