Virgin Atlantic announces new summer flying programme from London Heathrow
  • Virgin Atlantic has announced its new flying programme for summer 2020. It will include a second daily service between Heathrow and Delhi, a new weekly flight to San Francisco, and the routes that will debut the airline's brand new Airbus A350. The new service to Delhi will be the current evening service of the airline and will start on 29th March 2020 departing Heathrow in the morning. The new weekly service to San Francisco will depart on a Friday and will fly twice daily between Heathrow and the Golden Gate City. The airline's brand new A350 will fly on this route from May 2020, and will fly to five destinations across its network by August. The new routes to debut the aircraft from summer 2020 include Johannesburg, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Lagos.

Hyatt reveals its major luxury portfolio expansion plans Hotel group Hyatt has unveiled its plans to open more than 20 new luxury hotels worldwide by the end of 2020 across multiple brands. These include new properties under the Park Hyatt, Andaz, Alila, Grand Hyatt, Miraval as well as The Unbound Collection with the opening of Great Scotland Yard in London and reopening of Hotel du Palais Biarritz. While The Unbound Collection will see expansion in Europe, the five new Park Hyatt hotels are expected to open in Doha, Jakarta – Indonesia, Niseko – Japan, Suzhou – China, and Auckland. The Grand Hyatt brand will mark its debut in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait next year, and Grand Hyatt Nashville will launch in the US, following the recent opening of Grand Hyatt at SFO, the only on-airport hotel at SFO. Besides, a number of Andaz hotels are also scheduled to open in Shenzhen and Xiamen in China, Bali and Palm Springs in 2020. Meanwhile, Hyatt's Alila brand will be expanded to Malaysia, Switzerland and Oman, and Miraval Berkshires Resort and Spa will open in Massachusetts.

British Airways invests in brand new catering on London Gatwick flights
  • British Airways has invested multi-million pounds in its new in-flight menu on all flights from London Gatwick. Now available on all flights, the catering will bring in new menus featuring new dishes and recipes. The move is part of the airline's £6.5bn investment for customers and the improved menu will cover both short-haul and long-haul routes. The new food has focus on provenance with the provider, Newrest, which in order to source the best quality ingredient is working closely with the suppliers of South England. The new food will be served in World Traveller (economy), World Traveller Plus (premium economy), Club World (business) and First on long-haul, as well as in Club Europe (business) on short-haul services.
Fairmont to open third UK hotel with new Windsor Park property
  • Accor and Arora Group have announced to open Fairmont Windsor Park in the UK, next to Windsor Great Park and Savill Gardens. It is currently being redeveloped and will be the third Fairmont property in the UK, joining The Savoy in London and Fairmont St Andrews in Scotland. The hotel will open in the second half of 2020 and will comprise 200 rooms, indoor and outdoor pools, a 2,500 sqm spa and wellness centre with treatment rooms, salt room, hammam and a Japanese foot spa offering views over the courtyard and fire pit. For dining, there will be a tea lounge, champagne bar, all-day dining venue with private dining space and gin bar, and a “specialist dining restaurant”. This property will have 16 rooms for meetings and events that will comprise an 800 sqm pillar-free ballroom with capacity for up to 700 people, and landscaped garden for outdoor functions.

British Airways named Airline of the Year at Prestigious Global Airline Awards British Airline has been named Airline of the Year at one of the most prestigious award ceremonies of the aviation in its centenary year. It won the title at CAPA's annual Global Aviation Awards for Excellence, which honours top airlines and airports, and was held in Malta on December 5, 2019. The airline was awarded the headline title of the night by judges in recognition of its continuing commitment to innovation, its new and redesigned lounges, new dining across all cabins, investment in new aircraft, new bedding and amenity kits, industry-leading, streaming onboard Wi-Fi and access to power at every aircraft seat. Other winners at the awards included airBaltic (Regional Airline of the Year), Spirit Airline (Low-cost Airline of the Year) and LOT (Airline Turnaround of the Year).

Dundee Airport introduces new routes to London City and Belfast
  • Scotland based Loganair recently announced that it will switch essential air services between Dundee and London to London City Airport effective 29 March 2020. The service is currently operated to Stansted Airport. The airline will operate this new route with a new aircraft, ATR42-500 replacing the current Saab 340; this will increase the number of seats from 33 to 48 on every flight. The new aircraft is also more environmentally efficient and will have the carbon emissions per passenger cut by around 30% versus the Saab 340. Loganair also announced the introduction of a Dundee-Belfast City service which is the first between the two cities after the previous Loganair service was discontinued in 2012. The service will start from Thursday 2 April and will fly daily with six flights a week (except Saturdays) during summer, and three flights a week during the winter season.
British Airways and China Southern Airlines launch joint business
  • British Airways and China Southern Airlines have signed a joint venture agreement for travel from 2 January 2020, taking their partnership up a notch. The partnership will cover codesharing, frequent flyer programmes as well as passenger benefits of both the airlines. This will open more destinations between the UK and China, leaving customers with more flexible flight options and allowing airlines to cooperate on scheduling and pricing. At the beginning, the codesharing agreement will cover 14 domestic and international UK and Chinese routes. British Airways will put its code on China Southern-operated flights between Guangzhou, Sanya, Wuhan, Zhengzhou and London whereas China Southern will codeshare British Airways' London-Beijing Daxing, as well as London-Shanghai Pudong flights.

Ural Airlines connects Moscow to London Stansted Russian carrier Ural Airlines has launched its first ever flight from London Stansted (STN) to Moscow Domodedovo airport (DME). The four time weekly service will connect passengers from across London and the east of England to the Russian capital's Domodedovo airport using a 160-seater A320 aircraft, configured with economy and business class cabins. As per Stansted Airport, one-way fares for the new route start from £23. The airline originally planned to operate a service out of Moscow Zhukovsky International Airport, but then the plan was changed to operate from Moscow's more popular Domodedovo Airport (DME). This new service will provide cost-effective and convenient direct access to Moscow from London Stansted for the very first time.

British Airways to launch flights to Portland
  • British Airways has announced to launch a year round direct flight from the UK to Portland, Oregon on June 1, 2020. The airline will launch a five-per-week service to the city from Heathrow Terminal 5, and the flights will operate in both directions on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The airline will operate this route with the Boeing 787-8, featuring a total of 214 seats; and the flight time is just over 10 hours. With the launch of this new route, British Airways will become the first airline to offer a year round direct flight to Portland. And this new route will take the number of US destinations British Airways flies to from London up to 27, and the number of daily flights British Airways and American Airlines offer as part of their transatlantic joint business up to 86 per day.
