London City Airport has a record month and the busiest day ever
  • London City Airport recorded its busiest month ever in July 2018. In total, 471,519 passengers departed or arrived between July 1 and 31, with a passenger increase of almost 16% on July last year. As per reports, this is the third consecutive month the airport has had more travellers jetting off from the airport than ever before. Moreover, Monday 16th July was the airport’s busiest day ever, with more than 20,000 travelling through the airport.

Singapore Airlines named the world’s BEST
Singapore Airlines has been named airline of the year in this year’s annual Skytrax Awards with last year’s winner, Qatar Airways grabbing second place. The prestigious awards ceremony, which was held in London recently, saw Japan’s ANA All Nippon Airways named the world’s third best airline, whilst Emirates grabbed the fourth place. Taiwan’s Eva Air completed the list of the top five best airlines in the world.

Qatar Airways announces triple daily flights from Manchester to Doha
  • Qatar Airways is boosting its service between Manchester and Doha to a triple daily service from May 2019. The carrier currently operates 16 flights each week – double on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays with triple flights already operating on Mondays and Saturdays. Third flights on Tuesdays and Thursdays will be added from September this year with additional flights on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays being launched from May 22, 2019.
British Passport named fourth most powerful
  • The British passport is named the world’s fourth most powerful with the Singapore passport grabbing the top spot. According to the Henley Passport Index which ranks the world’s passports based on the number of countries their holders can travel to visa-free named the German passport the second most powerful. According to the report which was published in the Daily Mirror, British citizens can visit 186 countries without the need of a visa.
Qatar Airways offers Qsuite on flights to two Indian cities
  • Qatar Airways has launched its luxury suite, Qsuite on flights to Mumbai and Bangalore - two of India’s busiest business centres. Qsuite is currently available on select aircraft and offered on flights to London, Paris, New York, Chicago, Houston, Shanghai and Canberra. Qsuite features double bed in business class, as well as private cabins for up to four people with privacy panels.
    "We are thrilled to be offering our loyal customers this unique product. We look forward to welcoming passengers from Mumbai, Bengaluru and points beyond on board," said Akbar Al Baker, Group Chief Executive of Qatar Airways.
British Airways to launch Pittsburgh flights from London Heathrow
  • British Airways will start offering direct flights from London Heathrow to Pittsburgh from April 2019. It will be a four times a week service and a B787-8 aircraft, with three class configuration, will be used to operate the flight. The addition of this new route will expand the airline’s US network, taking the number of destinations served in the USA to 26. The new flights will run on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Flight BA0171 will depart from London Heathrow at 5.00pm and land in Pittsburgh at 8.15pm, while the BA0170 will leave Pittsburgh at 9.50pm, arriving into London at 10.25am the following day.

China Eastern to commence Gatwick-Shanghai flights
  • China Eastern Airlines will start flights between Gatwick and Shanghai Pudong International Airport from 7 December. It will be a three times a week service available on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Airbus A330-200 will be used to run the service.
    Stewart Wingate, CEO of Gatwick airport, said: "I’m delighted to welcome China Eastern to Gatwick and look forward to the start of this vital new link to Shanghai, which, like London, is undoubtedly one of the world’s most important cities and business hubs."
Emirates inaugurates a new airport lounge in Cairo
  • Dubai-based Emirates recently unveiled a new dedicated lounge at Cairo International Airport, its 42nd across its global network. The lounge is open to Emirates First Class and Business Class travellers as well as Platinum and Gold members of Skywards, the carrier’s frequent flyer programme. Located at Departure Terminal 2, Level 2, the Lounge offers seating for up to 152 customers, offering guests a relaxing ambiance and amenities like LED TVs, comfortable leather armchairs, and separate male and female prayer rooms.
Marriott's Four Points by Sheraton Salt Lake City Airport open to the public
  • Marriott International recently inaugurated the Four Points by Sheraton Salt Lake City Airport hotel. It offers more than 150 guestrooms and over 550 square feet of meeting space. The new hotel offers a 24-hour fitness centre, heated pool and free Wi-Fi access across the hotel and features the Best Brews & BBQ, the brand’s most loved programme which serves curated local beers and seasonal BBQ-style appetizers. Four Points by Sheraton Salt Lake City Airport is located near the Salt Palace Convention Center, around four miles from Salt Lake City International Airport.
Air France unveils fully-operational new business lounge at Paris CDG
  • After re-opening a part of it in January, Air France’s Business Lounge has been unveiled in full in Terminal 2E at Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport. The redesigned lounge now features more than 3,200 sq m of space and can accommodate up to 540 passengers. The new lounge has a bar area as well as the largest wellness area of any Air France lounge. It features an open kitchen and offers a self-service buffet with a selection of casseroles, salads and pastries. Moreover, there’s a detox bar, two private saunas and luxury showers.
Air Canada unveils new Signature Class business class
Air Canada has introduced Air Canada Signature Service, its new end-to-end premium travel experience featuring the Air Canada Signature Class cabin, formerly known as International Business Class. Air Canada Signature Service ensures a seamless airport experience with dedicated check-in counters, expedited security clearance, lounge access, exclusive boarding lanes, priority baggage handling and more. On board, Air Canada Signature Class customers can enjoy exclusive service and amenities.
Air Canada provides more daily non-stop flights UK to Canada than any other airline.
