United to resume Heathrow-Denver flights
  • United Airlines will resume London Heathrow-Denver flights from March 25 and will continue the service till October 25, 2018. The carrier will operate a daily service on the route, flying Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, with a three class configuration - Economy, Economy Plus and Polaris Business Class.
    Bob Schumacher, United's Managing Director - Sales, UK and Ireland, said: "This new flight will strengthen our international route network and provide our UK customers with a non-stop service to one of our key hubs."
    The airline earlier operated a Heathrow-Denver service between 2008 and 2010.

Eurostar sales get a business travel boost
Eurostar has gained from strong business travel bookings in the first half of 2017. The number of corporate passengers has risen by 5 per cent in the period. Overall, the rail operator's passenger numbers rose by 1 per cent to 5.04 million compared with 4.97 million during the first half of 2016.

Stansted and Birmingham to get new transatlantic flights
  • Danish low-cost carrier Primera Air will soon operate non-stop flights from Stansted and Birmingham to the US. The airline announced that it will run daily year-round flights to New York's Newark airport from Stansted in April 2018 and follow it up with a route to Boston Logan airport in May 2018. Primera Air will offer daily flights from Birmingham airport to Newark and four per week to Boston from May and June 2018 respectively.
Government lifts laptop ban on some flights from Turkey
  • The UK government has lifted the laptop ban on some flights from Turkish airports. UK bound travellers flying from either of the two Istanbul airports, Ataturk and Sabiha Gokcen, or from Izmir, will now be able to carry laptops and accessories into the cabin. However, they can do so only if they are flying on Turkish Airlines or Pegasus.
Grand Central launches new first class lounge at Wakefield Kirkgate
  • Much to the delight of train service users in the Wakefield area, Grand Central Rail has unveiled its first ever first class lounge at Wakefield Kirkgate. The new lounge is wonderfully furnished with vintage-style sofas, large chairs and high stool seating. It has been designed to promise a welcoming and comfortable experience to all First Class ticket holders. The lounge is equipped with USB ports and offers free Wi-Fi access and can accommodate at least 24 people.
New arrivals lounge opens in Heathrow Terminal 3
  • A new arrivals lounge, Plaza Premium Lounge, has opened at Heathrow Terminal 3. The lounge features satellite television channels and unlimited high-speed Wi-Fi access. Also, it includes 11 shower rooms.
    Heathrow's Head of Property, John Arbuckle said: "We are thrilled to welcome Plaza Premium to Terminal 3 and offer our arriving passengers a quiet space to fully refresh; a service which has proved really popular in Terminal's 2 and 4."
JAL launches second daily London-Tokyo service
  • Japan Airlines (JAL) will launch a second daily service between Heathrow and Tokyo from October 29. The flight will take off from London at 9.30am with the return flight leaving Tokyo Haneda at 2.45am.
    Japan Airlines Senior Vice President EMEA Region, Yoshitaka Ihokibe said: "Japan Airlines is delighted to announce the addition of this second flight on the London - Tokyo route.
    "Not only does this allow us to offer greater choice and seat availability to travellers based in London, it also allows customers travelling from elsewhere in the UK and Europe another option when travelling to and from Japan."
Business travellers prefer less human interaction on flights
  • According to a recent survey, an increasing number of business travellers would prefer to avoid interaction with people while travelling. The survey was done by Expedia's business-travel arm with nearly 5000 business travellers in Europe, America and Australia being questioned. Half of them said they want to avoid human contact while on the road. 49 per cent of the travellers surveyed said that Wi-Fi enhances their productivity.
Emirates revamped A380 onboard lounge takes to the skies
Emirates' newly revamped A380 Onboard Lounge made its operational debut recently on a flight to Kuala Lumpur. The lounge's latest makeover features a more intimate and social area. It can accommodate 26 guests and is available for Business and First Class customers on board the A380. The Onboard Lounge was first introduced on 1 August, 2008.
Las Vegas Convention Center Expansion Approved
Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) gave its final approval for the $1.4 billion renovation and expansion of the Las Vegas Convention Center. The renovation, which will be done in two phases, will include the construction of a 1.4-million-square-foot addition next to the existing venue that includes 600,000 square feet of meeting and exhibition space. Further, there will be a complete makeover of the convention centre’s existing 3.2 million square feet. The renovation and expansion is expected to be completed by 2023.
GTMC appoints new CEO
The Guild of Travel Management Companies (GTMC) has appointed Adrian Parkes as the new CEO. Mr Parkes takes over the role from Paul Wait who is leaving the organisation to take up another role in the travel industry.
